I was at the same dinner as Mike (#1), and thoroughly endorse his sentiments about this place. I have never felt so compelled to write a review – I’ve eaten at some pretty average places before, but this experience was bad bordering on comical…

I ordered from the ‘Wellington on a Plate’ menu, which included the roast kumara & tomato salad, and the creme brulee. When I read “kumara and tomato” salad, I assumed it would be tomatoes in the plural – not half a tomato presented in the middle of the plate – but the latter is what I was given, the rest of the meal consisting of chunks of kumara sitting on lettuce around the edge of the plate. A spectacularly average meal, which I could have easily whipped up at home – not what I would expect to be served in a restaurant.
No complaints about the dessert – the creme brulee was fine. But the service was shocking. Very slow and slack, and we weren’t the only ones in the restaurant who had this problem – I overheard a person at the table next to us say to the waitress “we’ve been seated for 30 minutes with no service, COULD we have the wine list, please!” They didn’t seem particularly busy, so I’m not too sure why the wine & food orders were taking so long. Then when our desserts finally came out and there was an extra apple crumble instead of another creme brulee, the waitress was adamant that someone had ordered the crumble. We told her that we didn’t, but it was fine – could she just get us another brulee, please. Instead, she said “let me go and get my numbers” – and came back with the crumble and her order chart to show that she’d written down 2 crumbles (which didn’t really prove much, had she misheard, which she must have). I’ve worked in hospitality myself, and mistakes do happen on both sides – but it’s how you deal with them that makes all the difference, and people at my table were visibly cringing at her arguing with us.
All in all, a very disappointing experience with Wakefields. We all had a bit of a laugh about it in the end, but as we were there for a close friend’s birthday it was a shame to have the night marred by such disappointing food and service.

The Burger was fantastic, great taste and generous serving size my partner just loved it.
The Creme Brulee was a yummy treat to finish off a great meal.

Oh Dear!!!
Food below average and service akin to Fawlty Towers.
The food was certainly not matched to the price. We had a table of 4 and none of us particularly enjoyed it. It would have been bearable if the service was not so bad. By the end of our meal we were actually laughing about it because it was so unreal.

I was with my mother who has had recent leg surgery and when we asked for an extra chair to put her leg up on we were initially told that they didn’t have any spare chairs (despite about 6 empty tables). We then had to wait forever for food and had to get up out of our seats, as the wait staff were completely ignoring us, to ask for our wine, and again for some water and then twice again for a pre-ordered dessert (which we didn’t have time for as we had waited around 45 minutes for our main course).

Terrible food, Terrible service. I had the tomato, Bacon and thyme risotto. It came out with chewy chunks of fatty bacon, with cherry tomatoes sitting on top. It tasted so bland I had to salt it three times to get any taste from it. I ate it because after tasting the dishes everyone else got served I knew I wouldn’t get better. I’d give it a 1/10 (the cherry tomatoes saved it and I don’t even like tomatoes). To be fair the guy beside me ordered the burger and thought it a 6/10. The service was very ordinary considering we were ordering from the set menu. We ended up having an argument with the serving person over the volumes of types of desert ordered. I’ve sure we’ll be talking about our experience here for a long time “Someone must have ordered the crumble it says it right here on my order sheet”.
