Reviews for The Terrace Bar

I have visited the Terrace 6 times so far this year. I keep going back because the food is great and the service is friendly. However tonight when I visited I ordered the Porterhouse steak. I asked for it medium and when it came out it was raw with only the outside of the steak brown. I sent it back and it came out 40 minutes later properly cooked. Everyone else had already finished their meal. No discount at billing was offered. I will not be returning.
Also visiting 6 times this year alone we have only just been offered the Terrace loyalty card which we could have been using all along. However now we will not be returning

Ive gone to the Terrace bar now twice for lunch and dinner, the first night I went the service was superb. The food was devine and generally a fantastic night. Finding a place that can cook a blue steak perfect is hard to find. The terrace has provided amazing food each time. My favourite restaurant so far. Thank you Terrace!

We went for an evening meal during the week. My husbands meal – stone grill mixed meat went down a treat, however my meal, I forget the name of it, it was a chicken enchilada, was disappointing. The plate came with the biggest salad I have ever seen. Completely over-faced the dish. Service – average. Would not go back again.

We went to the terrace on New Years eve for a special dinner.
We were looking forward to what we heard was really good food and a really nice place.
We ordered the fish dish, the variety stone grill meal and the lamb shanks meal. They were each round the 30 dollar mark.
I was impressed that our meals arrived to us in good time.
The food was average. particularly for the price of each meal we expected the food to be alot better and larger protioned atleast. We were sitting there eating and commenting how with the fish meal we couldve just went to the fish n chip shop and gotten just as good, while my lamb shank meal was just like our sunday roasts (only muuuuuch smaller).
Our cutlery and cups all had water marks on them, they dont polish their cups, which had us returning numerous cups and then having to put up with water stained glasses, which was very un appetising to use.
Our table was wobbly and very brezzy as we were situated near the bar. Overall the atmosphere is Not of a fine dining restauront but definatly a bar… however the meals are not bar price friendly.
DO NOT go here if you want to have a fine dining experience or a romantic meal.

My wife and I visited Dunedin recently. We came in for lunch and was skeptical of the stone grill…but it was explained properly to us. In any event we really enjoyed it. The food was excellent and the staff was very friendly. I personally think it had the best lamb I have had (but of course I am not from NZ). Erick from Melbourne

First time I went here the meat was rare…so I had to send it back because they didnt ask me how i liked my red meat cooked…but they happily recooked it and offered a complimentary drink. been back a few times since and the food has been brilliant!!

The food here is outstanding – their chicken salad and their stonegrills especially not to mention desserts.
The best thing here is they do takeaways for lunch – nothing like a nice chicken salad back at the office!

I went to the Terrace for my 25th birthday meal and was very impressed with every aspect. The food was amazing, the staff were very friendly and knowledgable and made myself and my guests feel very comfortable.

This was without a doubt the worst “dining experience” during our recent trip to New Zealand. The manager was verbally agressive and seemed to take the attitude that the customer is always wrong!
We dropped by for a quick lunch whilst visiting Dunedin. I ordered the kebab and was shocked when this turned up on a stone grill (stone grills are not mentioned on the lunch menu and the waitress didn’t mention this to me either!). Since I didn’t want this a) because it’s inappropriate for a light lunch – I didn’t have time to watch my food “slow cook” in front of me whilst my partner ate a sandwich b) because I was concerned about accidentally eating partially cooked poultry and seafood, I asked for something else instead.
Rather than accepting that the item had been poorly described, the manager refused to give me anything else from the menu, blamed me for his waitress forgetting to explain the item came on a stone grill, threatened me with the police and laughed at me! One of the comments the manager made was that he wasn’t replacing the food because there was nothing wrong with it; we agree there was nothing wrong with, apart from the fact it wasn’t cooked! We paid for what we’d actually eaten, then left. I assume that Interpol will track us down to collect the balance!
There are two types of terrace, the type where you can enjoy al fresco dining and the type where you find football hooligans, this bar (it’s not a restaurant!) is named after the latter.

One of the best things about this place, is the huge big beer-containing vessels (about a metre high) that you can have brought out for your table (or bar-leaner). They have a tap on them so you can all refill your own vessels from it at will.
The big antipasto platters of food are also great for a big group. Another yummy thing is their steak mains brought out sizzling on a hot stone.
