To celebrate my wife’s birthday a group of 8 dined last night at this restaurant. We could not have been more pleased. The service was great and the meals fantastic and we found the whole night to be reasonably priced. As there was quite a large crowd there we expected delays but this did not happen.

I have been frequenting restaurants for many years and before the earthquakes I stuck mainly to the city restaurants.
Post earthquakes I had been told of Styx and Stone to try by a friend as they had dined there and enjoyed the meal they had.
I found the surroundings of the restaurant very much to my liking with a number of areas you could be seated at.
The staff were friendly and very responsive to my requests, which I appreciate when treating myself to a meal out.
I found the menu choices were wide a varied which was great as it allowed me to try dishes that the bulk of other restaurants don’t provide, especially the Stone Grill.
I have to say all of the meat was beautifully tender and of generous proportions, with good sized side dishes of side salads.
All through the meal the staff were attentive even though the restaurant was full, courses were prompt and meal costs were very reasonable.
I’m not one for usually writing reviews on restaurants but Styx & Stone proved to be a very pleasant experience for my partner and I that I’ve made the effort to do so.
A great experience with delicious food and friendly staff, which isn’t hard on the pocket, good on you Styx & Stone I will definitely be back and telling friends and acquaintances about your top notch restaurant.

After visiting Christchurch for the weekend we found this delightful bar & restaurant, we both had the stone grill and it was fantastic, went back the next day on the way home for the $10 lunch – wow what great value!! We would recommend that you try it – we really enjoyed it and the staff were very friendly

The only consistent thing about Styx & Stone Restaurant is it’s inconsistency!! After supporting this Restaurant on and off now for about five years (I am a slow learner) my friend and I have finally decided enough is enough. Today our BLT was just so disgusting it was basically inedible. The bread was under-toasted and doughy, the bacon under-cooked and all this slimy dressing smothering limp lettuce and tomato. We duly complained and were offered a re-make which we accepted, only because we were enjoying our glass of wine. However, the “remake” of the meal was far worse than the original and they had added slimy red limp cooked capsicum. Yuk Yuk Yuk and good bye to you Styx & Stone!!!!!!! By the way, we did pay even tho we didn’t eat it….

Wasnt overly impressed got here and ordered the 10 steak and was told that it had gone up to 12.50 even tho they stil advertising it for 10 any business advertising a certain price has to stand by it. Gave us the wrong drink and forgot my coffee, meal was disgusting my steak was like eating old boots, the souvlaki had aphid in it and the mince was horrible, service with a smile doesnt go astray either you would think they would try and rectify the bad situation but no

We had a fabulous meal at your restaurant. Great food and attentive, friendly staff. The stonegrill was a great experience. Very sociable and fun way to dine. I had the fettucine though and really loved it. Thanks for a great night. We will be back!!!

Went for the $10 lunch deal.
Couldn’t sit where you wanted made us sit in a dark corner even though most the seating by the windows were empty the whole time we were there.

40 minutes to get an open chicken sandwich…

Drinks they forgot twice to serve us….

Staff are more interested in talking to them selves behind the bar….

Overall couldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

I’ll be back! Just keep the quality of your seafood chowder as high as it was when I was there for lunch a couple weeks ago! It was a lovely meal, friendly service and speedy! Good value, too.

Went on Sunday night 11/7/11. Mother in laws birthday dinner. Arrived at 7pm we were booked in for group of 6. Looking forward to stonegrill. Surly waitress came over and told us stonegrill menu which is over 50% of menu was unavailable as they had run out of stones at lunchtime!!!! Staff apologetic but still hugely dissapointing as this is why we had booked there! Main meals were atrocious worst I have had. Flavourless, small portions, potatoes came out cold! Vege’s were terrible uncooked cauliflower etc. Yuck. Extreme lack of flavour. Fries were overcooked and dry and skimpy. Not only had they run out of stones for stonegrill, one of our party ordered a steak off the main menu and was told he couldn’t have it. Also ordered a side of fried egg which was forgotten and brought out later. Didn’t get dessert as wanted a quick getaway from this dive! Only consolation was we were given free coffees at the end of the meal, which was the high point of an awful meal!

Highly recommended. Went for the first time today – Sunday lunch. Factastic value and great tasting food – both main and dessert was awesome!. I am looking forward to going back and trying the stone grill – even my 10 year old niece had it and loved it. Fantastic staff also. Thanks so much for a lovely Sunday afternoon.

Having just had lunch there today I would rate it as the worst dining experience EVER. We eat out alot both here and overseas and I could not beleive today’s lunch exoerience. Firstly we waited just over an hour for six stonegrill meals. An hour is excessive given that it was 2pm (that was the only time we could book a table for) and that the meals consisted of a few limp lettuce leaves, some minute warm ‘roast’ potatoes and a piece of raw meat…no cooking and not even fries. Okay-so the stonegrill meals- I had surf n turf 2 small mussells, two small cooked prawns,a scallop white (no roe) and if you put your thumb and forefinger together that was how big the piece of steak was…I took a photo. DH had the tasting sg and basically had what I had only his piece of steak was three times the size and a decent size piece of pork as well. Another tasting sg was the same. Son had turf which was a piece of steak which obviously had been sitting for awhile as it had cooked well oon one side.Daughter had the chicken sg- 4 cubes of chicken between two skewers and small portion of rice that was so hard that not only was it inedible but you couldn’t ‘cut’ it. I actually felt sorry for the wait staff having to serve it. Spoke to the duty manager who knocked our drinks off the bill (big deal as not a huge amount).Value for $15 per sg??? I would rather pay $28 and have a real meal. We have all eaten again after leaving the restaurant.Horrid horrid horrid experience and I cannot understand why people keep going back.

This place is awesome!!! I would recommend to anyone that asked me for a good venue for a drink or meal in Christchurch.
I have had the stone grill twice now and I have to say that the Quattro was my favourite. Being able to sample 4 types of meat on the one stone was perfect!!

A great place for a small or large group and plenty of icy cold beer on tap!!!

I have dined at the Styx and Stone restaurant on several occasions and can’t speak highly enough about it. The new Stone grill concept is a real winner. The meat is lean and generous and you can cook it exactly the way you like it. Staff are friendly and helpful. Its become a regular for me and i always go for a dessert.

My partner and I had a fantastic experience at Styx and Stone whilst visiting Christchurch.
We were thrilled by the meals. The Stone Grill was such an awesome idea and something we hadn’t experienced before. Very tasty food and generous servings, yet not over the top.
Desserts are to die for with a large selection to choose from.
The atmosphere was great. Very chilled back and relaxed, somewhere you could go and have a drink or two with a lovely meal or a coffee and cake in front of the blazing fire.

We look forward to returning to Christchurch in the near future and this will certainly be somewhere I will recommend to friends.

I am not usually a steak eater when I dine out but this concept of a stone grill is amazing. Fun, social and the steak was tender and I could cook it just how I liked!
Lovely decor and friendly staff!

Service was really good here, but the food was very, very average. Go here if you’re just looking for a slab of meat because that’s basically what it is. The potatoes were tasteless and if there was any rosemary on them I’d be surprised while the salad was one that just came out of those prepackaged bags with dressing on top. We left feeling dissatisfied. This place has great bones, they just need to improve the food!

Have had 4-5 dining experiences over the last few months. Always great service, great food!!
Last dining was 26th June, and have never had a problem with anything. Maybe the people who gave a bad review just picked a night with possible illness of staff?? I would highly recommend dining here and see for yourself. We’re planning on going this week.

Firstly i would like to say how great the new Bar looks both inside and out.
We have been coming into your Bar now for a while and have always been happy with the service we receive.
However i feel that after dining at your Restaurant with my friends this week i feel it was only fair to let you know how disappointed we felt.

We all felt like we were a bother for dining in and a real inconvenience. It is such a shame to have taken friends who we had raved about the place to feel so disappointed.
Listen i feel so strongly about this because all 4 of us felt the same. The biggest problem we had was with our meals. Our meals was very and i stress very average and in one case a meal was hardly touched. Even small things such as the sauce was not the same, and something so small as this is what we loved. When we were asked if we were happy with our meals It then came clear there has been a change in your kitchen staff.

I just feel your staff need to pull their socks up. We had only dined in a few weeks ago and were more than happy with our meals.
