Big disappointment, I have been to most places in Paihia that have a breakfast menu and have just started to venture further to Kerikeri, well I ordered eggs Benedict w/bacon, waited1/2 an hour for it to turn up (I can understand if its busy and they have make the first batch of hollandaise sauce of the day) but not busy and the sauce was watery and lacked in flavour, the bacon looked if it had been cut free hand and in parts was 4-5 mm thick and very very tough, the bun/bread they used was extremely tough (I suggest they serve with steak knives if that is how it is meant to be) the stalk of the spinach/silver beet had been chopped 3/4 days previous to cooking and the dark brown/black ends should have been trimmed off prior to getting to my table, I don’t normally use salt and pepper but when I found a table with them I got up and brought them to get some flavour on what I did eat. I know it sounds harsh but they definitely need to hire someone who knows how to cook for a cafe, this was the worst breakfast I have paid for, I wouldn’t eat it all, so I ended up enjoying a sausage bought from a sausage sizzle outside The Warehouse in Waipapa

A lovely cafe, slightly off the beaten tourist track so nice and quiet. Friendly staff and great coffee. Very clean and the only cafe we stopped at on our road trip which had an indoor play table for the children, with books, colouring stuff and toys. It won’t sound like much to those of you without children but fantastic for parents of a 4 and a 9 year old! We greatly enjoyed our rustic Israeli omelettes and the children loved their fries. We recommend that you give this cafe a try.

It pains me to leave a negative review to such nice people.
We had a couple of vouchers that we bought on line and headed inland to Keri Keri on a day specified as good on the voucher only to find a cafe with its chef on holiday. The nice chap who was holding the fort selling pre prepared pastries etc. offered free coffees to keep us happy.
We turned up the next day as suggested.
The same nice guy was serving and there was a lady in the kitchen this time.
The worse dish we ordered was a vegetarian lasagna. for my daughter . If only they had stuck to a silver beet or spinach core with a Rich tomato sauce and a great cheese sauce layer . but no a mish mash of very ordinary courgettes in a very un appetising sauce.
The Sirloin sandwich was so plain and lacking seasoning or any substance it was a real party killer.
The fish and chips had the worse batter one could imagine almost rock solid and heavy and the fish slithers were very small.
It took so long to be brought our meals that were we not on holiday we would have been crying.
If the chef happens to be a co owner do yourself a favour and get someone in there that knows what they are doing.
Leaving a job in the city to buy a cafe in the country sounds like a dream and this may or may not be the case here. But your serving staff have what it takes to be success full just give them the support of a great chef and things will improve.
