Our recent family gathering of 12 including 4 kids was a great experience. Lovely food and excellent service from Claire, who was equally attentive to the kids as she was to the adults. Thoroughly enjoyable evening and absolutely recommended to others.

9th April 2012-
Have dined at The Quarry a few times before and we would not go back lack of good food but a few of our friends went there for dinner and said we had to try it again and the they had a new chef and he was wonderful.
So Easter Saturday me and my wife went they for dinner with mixed feels from times before!
What a wonderful meal we had !!!!!!
I started the night with buff oysters (which were very fresh and you could still taste the sea ) my wife had the new entree of blue cheese mushrooms which she said she had never tasted such flavours.
For Mains I had the Duck which was 5 stars duck was tender the baby veg was out standing and that orange sauce was out standing ( I nearly licked my plate)
My wife had the fish of the day with was pan fried with Cajun spice and served with a warm salad of fennel and herbs, the fish was cooked perfectly and she said the flavours were well suited to the meal
We were both way to full to have dessert but did eye up the ones the table ordered next to us and they were so ever tempting !!
I take my hat of the the new chef and would recommend the Quarry to all my friends and family
Thanks guys for a wonderful night of fine food and great service
We will be back
5 STAR !!!!!!!!!!!

1st April 2012-
We went to the Quarry tonight expecting the same delicious meal we had ordered on previous occasions. The waitress was helpful when discussing a new salad, but no I could still taste the delicious chicken and bacon salad I had eaten on my previous visit. My husband ordered oysters and steak. We arrived and ordered our meals at approx 5.30pm and waited till after 7pm for our mains to arrive. The oysters my husband said, were delicious and served within a reasonable time frame. However we waited and waited for your mains. Tables around us received their meals before us, there was banter from table to table about who would get lucky next – meaning when were the meals going to arrive. The 2 waitresses were professional and very apologetic – we felt sorry for them.
Finally at 7.10pm our main course meals arrived and what a disappointment. Although my husbands steak was nicely cooked it was served with a burnt rasher of bacon that he said “tasted like ash in his mouth.”
My salad was dumped on the plate with some salad drenched in dressing and others without dressing at all.
The consistency of the restaurant clearly depends on who is the chef on the night and I would advise any patron to find out in advance who will be cooking on the night they intend dining.

We had friends up over the last weekend and on Friday after a morning of golf for the boys and shopping for the girls, we decided to stop at The Quarry on our way back from KatiKati for lunch.
We were greeted in a very friendly manner by the lady behind the bar and took a table outside, the bar lady also turned out to be the waitress and introduced herself as Tracey and took the drinks order. She was back very quickly with the drinks and the food order was placed, it should be noted that nothing was written down yet every order and request was completed without fault.
Tracey was very friendly and we all had a damn good chat while we waited for the food. When the food arrived it was absolutely spot on, everything was cooked to our individual needs and was beautifully presented. Having had the Parmigiana I can definitely recommend it, and the curly fries!!! bloody marvelous!!
All in all we had a brilliant day and having had such a lovely dining experience just helped to cap the day off nicely. Special thanks to Tracey for making it such a pleasant dining experience, good service is always the key.

I went to the Quarry Tavern for my 20th birthday in Feb, after booking two weeks prior. I Loved how they took and handled my booking and rung to confirm numbers the day before.
However when everyone had arrived and we had taken drink orders, the drinks all arrived at the most randomist times and my drink was totally different to what I had ordered!! I was so excited to finally have some time off work an be the one dining rather than the one serving but I got no service for drinks the whole night. I saw empty glasses and was up at the bar ordering drinks for my parents an friends every ten minutes. It’s like our first order for drinks an food were the only ones all night and all I got to drink was water!! The portion of bread on the starters was shocking considering I work in hospo but I’ve got to say that the main Meals were all sensational. Another thing was my partners meal went cold because he was up at the bar trying to get them to make me a special birthday cocktail, instead of a waitress takin my order and let tin me enjoy my night.
To top it off, when it came to payment, they didn’t tell us that the system had crashed they just gave us all numbers and we still had to explain what we had and add in on a calculator, then I got double charged and told that I wasn’t cause the tils were accurate.
It was embarrassing for my friends an family to witness that.
The manager handled it the best he could and I know from being in Hospo how hard it must be if the system isn’t working but a heads up would have been nice.
I was overall not happy with the waitresses as it wasn’t that busy and there was enough staff on.

My wife and I just had our wedding reception there on Saturday the 25th of February 2012. I can tell you that I couldn’t find fault with anything. They have new chefs who were both thoroughly professional and attentive. Lily the manager listened to what we wanted and more than delivered on what we had discussed. As my best man and I were wearing kilts and we requested a tablecloth on the bridal table. Every table got a tablecloth and was ornately decorated. The food and nibbles were devine and delivered on time. Everybody who attended and there were 69 in total commented on how beautiful the food was and how wonderful the venue was. We had stuffed butterfly scotch- fillet, hot leg ham on the bone, and lamb. The minted potatoes were perfect and they delivered a beautiful array of salads. We also requested vegetables which were wonderfully seasoned and nice and crunchy. All in all I would thorouglly recommend The Quarry as a place to book for a function or even a great place for a nice romantic evening with nice tasty food. We didn’t have to worry about a thing and my thanks for a great night.

this setting is great but the food dreadful. our first two choices from the menu unavailable, over an hour for the food to arrive . when it did it was either overcooked or raw ….brussel sprouts couldnt get a fork into, vegetables side dish, soggy, stewed,.. looked like they had been around for a few days, the mushroom starter cooked in old oil and definately overdone. The duck the smallest toughest piece …..
I would definitely not recommend this food the standard and quality did not relate to the prices charged…the fabric chairs were in need of a clean as well. disappointing as such a nice building. This has been edited note dates of good reviews!

Having been to The Quarry before and had an enjoyable meal with thought it would be nice to go again – maybe not!!!
They had a new menu starting on Thursday night and had no idea how to cook anything on it.
For starters we thought garlic bread to share – wow – it took 40 minutes to arrive and was rock hard, and lacking in butter and favour. We joked that we are lucky our neighbour is a dentist it was that hard to bite into.
The mains – very average – the Duck was tough and cold, the Pasta – minced up chicken – the ribs – pick of the night.
The dessert – the Chocolate ???? – nothing like the description – just a glass of mouse like stuff with a base somewhere in the bottom of the glass, the ice cream sundae – mmmm where was the ice cream – a bit of chocolate sauce swirled around a glass with a blob of ice cream added.
It was not a busy night but the service was very slow – won’t be returning any time soon – shame really as it a lovely venue.

I had my wedding dinner here at the end of last year. I rang and arranged by talking to the chef that I wanted platters out on the table at 5pm for when we all arrived and that I would like them all to be vegetarian, this was no problem I was told. I also talked to the manager and discussed table settings and mentioned that I was having vegetarian platters. We arrived at 5pm to empty tables, the decorations I had dropped off were not on the tables like I had discussed and no platters…..not even wine. Wine came eventually and about 40min later the platters came, they looked great and as I bit into an appatiser I heard the crunch of prawn, the platters were not vegetarian at all, I had to run around the tables and try stop the other 10 guests that were vegetarian from eating anything off the platters as I had previously told them everything was vegetarian. Also my Aunty is seriously allergic to most sea food so we are lucky she hadn’t eaten anything yet. After complaining about the platters the waitress went to check in the kitchen with the chef and came back to tell me I had not ordered vegan platters just vegetarian ones so fish was ok…….what? Since when do vegetarians eat fish and since when did a chef not know what a vegetarian was, where did they get trained? The solution was offered that the platters just get taken away and we wait for new ones, which I declined as people were eating them and I didn’t want to wait another 40min to eat again. We all ordered and I and my other vegetarian guests got the only thing we could get off the menu, vege stack with halumi cheese. When this came out there was no halumi cheese, just vegetables, which is a little like some one ordering a steak and salad and just getting the salad. Vegetarians need protein and flavor too. So all of the plates got sent back and came back out with raw 2mm thick slices of halumi. I informed the waitress it needed to be cooked or it is like rubber. They all got taken away again and I assume put in the microwave as when they came back out there was no sign of frying on the cheese it just seemed droopy but could still be snapped so still raw. A few of my guests just had to eat theirs as they had kids with them that just needed food and a couple of others ate theirs as they felt it was as good as it was going to get. I sent mine back, eventually when it came back out it had been done all over again, I had 1 1/4 pieces of halumi which for a $20+ is an insult. This time the eggplant was raw, I could not even cut I to it, I just gave up at that point. The people that ordered fish of the day got fish covered in a sweet ginger crumb which I was told by a few was weird, like a fish dessert. My brothers food was forgotten about, he got his after everyone had eaten. People got steak instead of veal. Tails were left on the prawns in the seafood dish.
The was perfect day just ended in stress. I ended up leaving early because I was so disappointed with how everything had gone. I would never recommend this place to anyone. I had been there once before 3years ago and it was nice. I think the real kick in the teeth is I have had not contact from the owner at all saying sorry for the complete disaster he made of my wedding day. It could be a nice place if only someone cared enough to run it properly.

Really disappointed with our latest and last visit to the Quarry, possibly due to new management or owner? As previous visits were great.
Cold food, dishes being presented with main ingredients missing, meal had to be sent back 3 times, and even then it wasn’t right. The chef didn’t understand that vegetarian meant no fish???? (almost unbelievable) Group member served steak when she ordered venison, seems someone else got the venison. One of the group got totally overlooked. Chicken salads being presented when chicken breast was ordered, actually made me embarrassed that I had recommended the Quarry as the venue for our group.
One plus was the waitresses they were young women that were tying very hard, we all felt sorry for them. We will not return and would advise anyone we know not to bother either.

My husband and I had a lovely meal here. The meals were fabulous and the staff were very attentive. We will definitely be going back again, but this time with our children as there is a great outside area for them to explore.

The BEST steak in NZ! Finest quality, cooked to absolute perfection. Thank you so much!

Wow – what an awesome environment to dine in. This warm and country setting is just the place when you want to dine with complete relaxation. Wooden tones with large “leather looking” suites to lounge back into around the fire, for a pleasurable after dinner drink.
Views out into the country from the odd window and of course lovely food and good choice of beverage.
The service we experienced for a birthday celebration was simply outstanding. The staff went out of their way to ensure that all was well !!
I recommend this restaurant to all who like to dine in an “out of the city” location with a peaceful setting and a comfortable atmosphere.
Try “The Quarry” – TODAY !

Good service and nice surroundings for what is an upmarket pub. The Paella I had was pleasant (but featured a still frozen prawn), although my companion was pleased with her meal. The Dessert menu was uninspired and the prices are a little high, all things considered.

We have frequented the Quarry Tavern for years, but the standard has slipped somewhat, a shame for an awesome venue. The wait staff are really lovely, shame about the food. We usually go there for breakfast, but the standards have really fallen below par. My eggs benedict was on a horrible greasy rosti, if you can call it that, it was oozing with grease – just disgusting, they used to have some nice dry herbed rostis, so not sure if they are cutting costs or what? The hollandiase sauce was non existant! My husband had the big breakfast, accompained with hollandaise sauce, which they forgot! We also went for dinner when they supposedly changed the menu, when I asked about the new menu the waitress said they only changed two items on the menu! The venison advertised out front on a huge sign was non existant also – very disappointing.

We have eaten at The Quarry 3 times in the past couple of months and have enjoyed all visits, the food is always brilliant, the staff fantastic and the prices reasonable. My 2nd favourite restaurant in Tauranga, alas, I’m moving back to England in September, I just hope I get the chance for atleast one more meal before we leave.

Went for Dinner at The Quarry and was very happy.
We had a nice seat and had a friendly waitress.
The service was slower as we had a big table before us but when the food arrived- it was great and was very full! Cheers.
