The oldest Tearooms in New Zealand still serving Devonshire Cream Teas, Kiwi Style, Puhoi fashion. The Puhoi Cottage was 100 years old 3 years ago and has been serving Devonshire Cream Teas for 40 years. The setting is unique. Puhoi is one of only two ethnically historic villages in New Zealand. It is being protected to preserve its tranquility and beauty. The outlook from the Puhoi Cottage is the Puhoi River Park, the backdrop to Puhoi. Sit on the veranda or in the garden with you tea or coffee and scones or cakes, baked in our own bake house, and in the summer relax to live music played for you every summer Sunday.

by Catherine C. 17th January 2011: Please do not visit this restaurant in a hurry. I was very disappointed after reading other reviews on line. The sandwich bread was stale, the scone not great either and the hot chocolate cold and gross! I paid almost $20 for lunch my daughter and I could not even eat and when I mentioned this to the owner he did not seem to care. Much better places to visit than the neglected tearooms in Puhoi!

Thanks for that.
The hot chocolate drink could have been reheated. However, for children they are purposely not heated to the same temperature as an adults for fear of burning the mouth. The bread thing is a tricky one as it soon drys out in the hot sun. But again if it was dry when we took it out, it could have been sorted. We were very surprised by your scone comment, but statistically,I suppose they can’t all be great!We are normally quite successfulness in weeding the occasional odd ball out before they hit your plate. Again this could have been fixed. As far as caring goes,we have built our business on customer care and friendliness and it has survived now for 40+ years, so that’s a hard one. Neglected, well I have to admit to occasionally letting the grass grow a little too long, but only because I have not been able to get to it because of consecutive days of rain.
But thanks again. They say a complaint is a gift. We now put a lid on all Hot Chocolate drinks.

The owner is friendly too.

Highly recommendable when you are about to visit the Puhoi area.
