I work in Ponsonby Road and have been eating here since the 1990s though I am sure ownership has changed in that time !
I read the last review when I was looking up the phone number to order to save lunch time and was very conscious of what I was served.
I had takeaway half chips and snapper for $8. Wow! what a treat.
So hot and fresh and crisp. Don’t know how any UK chippie could serve better and our stunning local snapper to boot!

Let’s get this straight. New Zealand has a belief that they do good fish and chips. If you’re from the UK you need to get a little perspective because they don’t come close to an average chippy in the UK.

Out of about 10 that chippies that we’ve tried since arriving this one wasn’t the worst but it definitely wasn’t the best. And to be honest all of them have been poor-average.

The fish was pretty greasy but was quite nice. The chips were really bad chips that are the same as every other chips from chippies in NZ, frozen. Oh, and it’s really strange how it takes 15-20 minutes to cook things here. You would expect that to make it taste amazing but it doesn’t.

We’ve not given up our search for good fish and chips but we’re not hopeful. Luckily the pies are as good as everyone says they are here!

The quality of product and portion size here is abysmal. A scoop won’t go more than 1 person, the donut was bland and crispy and the delicious-sounding grilled terakihi was barely a mouthful. It’s a gourmet price for a standard feed which essentially puts it in range of most other Ponsonby takeaway joints, which are probably money better spent.

I’ve been a regular visitor to Ponsonby Fresh Fish and Chip Co for the past 5 years.
I always order the same thing off their menu. In fact they know what I want the minute they see me. Great food and great service.
I don’t go there on Fri nights as the wait is to long,can be up to 40 minutes so, I’ve changed my fish n’ chip night to Thursdays instead. I happily drive from Mt Roskill to the shop on Ponsonby Rd without battering an eyelid(pardon the pun).
