Wow, what an amazing restaurant. Truly Parisian atmosphere with an accordian player on Friday night (who looks like Sandra Bullock). The place was full and everyone looked like they were having a great time. Excellent service with staff who know what they are doing – and the owner is the maitre de. But all that would be nothing without great food right? Well the food was better than great – it tasted like it was prepared with love. From the snails right through to the Creme Brulee. Everyone in our group of 7 was over the moon with their meals. C’est parfait. Thanks for the great night Pastis.

Classic french bistro. It would be nice to find a French restaurant in Auckland the doesn’t have red and white gingham…
Its at the top end, price wise. I think the food is down at least a notch below that. Canard was great the first time we went. Boef second time was OK- but if it cost $48 + it should be better. Point being, you’re paying for superb, not OK. Service is good- but it should be. Desserts are uninspired, and we passed them up second time. I might not go again, as not being sure its going to be faultless is a worry with this price bracket. Sure, they’re all French staff, which feels ‘authentic’ , but same with Le Garde-Manger, which actually has bistro, rather than restaurant prices.

This place never disappoints.
On Saturday 10Th December my twin brother and I celebrated our birthday at Pastis .A total of 16 people attended
The service was faultless. They served 48 meals (3 courses each for 16 people) all at the same time each time. Nobody had to wait .Well done .Excellent service.

Pastis was fantastic in every way: the service surpassed expectations by a mile; the escargot were particularly superb; and it has a great Parisian atmosphere. I love coming here!

I dined here last night with a group of 12 friends. The staff took the size of our group in their stride. The atmosphere in this restaurant was pumping and unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before. The staff were super helpful, attentive and fluent in French and English. We dined on a Friday night when there was an Accordian player adding to the ambiance. The food truly captured the flavours of France, was delicious and plentiful. The French wine on the wine list was a nice touch and we enjoyed the novelty of trying new wines. What makes this restaurant super special though is their fabulous front of house team. Will definately be back.

Nice French Cafe…
Been a couple of times and service and food is quite original and well presented. Can be quite cramped and noisy/busy at times.
Decor is a little old/dated and could do with a refresh

We came here in May for my French boyfriend’s birthday. The service was lovely and the wine, although at an extremely high price, was good. Also enjoyed a yummy creme brulee for dessert. However it was cold inside, and the entrees and mains were a real letdown- especially the fish which was overpriced for what was offered- as soon as I touched it with my fork I knew it was overcooked, really tough, SUCH a disappointment when you’re spending over $30. Also the salmon entree was pretty tasteless. Mostly a let down.

Friday night after work we felt like something a little different, so we went to our own little bit of France in CBD – Pastis.
One of the things that immediately felt heart warming was several of the people serving were indeed French and it felt like a Parisian bistro, whilst rainy and cold outside, warm and welcoming inside…
We opted for the bar food, a terrine de campagne with cornichons, pommes frittes ( or fries to you and I ) with aioli, all were perfect except the aioli could have been a little softer to dip the fries into, flavour though was wonderfully garlicy.
Auckland would be so much less without unique interesting places like Pastis. “A bientot”

Awesome French restaurant you can actually get into. They do not take booking (if less than 6ppl) so first come first serve in this small restaurant on the corner. Live French music on this Thurs night. Mains were around $30, and entree around $15 – $20. I had a rack of rosemary&crumbed lamb with homemade tagliatelle on the special board, it tasted like a dream! Desserts are also highly recommended – my poached pear & chocolate crepe was a happy ending to the meal.

The restaurant has a nice ambiance, and the accordion player was the highlight of the evening. We were there for an event, so the meal was a prefix, but the food was horrible. My steak was tough and overcooked, the sauce tasted burnt, and the potatoes were burnt on the bottom. There were about 10 people at my table, and everyone I spoke to had a similar opinion of the food. The manager asked us how things were, and didn’t seem to care too much when we told him. I would go back for the bar and the music, but I would not eat here again

After reading good reviews for Pastis a large group of us dined there recently. Very disappointed in the fish main meal, particularly as it was not fresh and its very strong aroma should have alarmed us. Others in our party complained of the dry meat in their main meal. Service was great, atmosphere was great … but would think twice before returning as I don’t think the quality of the food was up to standard.

Cold Kronenburg on Tap with even better price tag. The lass on the accordion really made the night with all our favourite french tunes. The staff were great. The night we went 23/5/08 saw a long table of diners celebrating with the boss who was a Croatian nobody minded when he stood on his chair & belted out a Croat hava Na Gila in fact the staff encouraged him. Can recommend the brains superb experience a real find the place is a blast.I am going back for Bastille day that should really go off.

Dining at Pastis reminded me very much of Paris, which is my favorite city in the world. The service was excellent and of couse the food was the same. Merci for an excellent dining experience. By the way, I am from Billings, Montana USA

My new favourite restaurant. Brilliant staff who are informed, professional and sensitive. After fabulous entrees we decided to slow down to ensure there was room for desert. The escargot and pate entrees where savoured with great appreciation. Mains of venison and duck were prefectly done and the deserts of poached pear and crepe finished off a brilliant experience. I recommend!

We love this place. The service is excellent and the food is just great. We had the escargot for entree which was perfect and the waiter saw that we still had gravy left so he brought us more bread. Our mains we stunning too. Love the atmosphere and the wait staff were all French too!
We were too full for dessert but have vowed to go back again.

What a fantastic French atmosphere.
This the real authentic thing – the waiters are all French, and many of our fellow diners were speaking in French too. (So I guess you know it’s got to be good if the nationals go!) You have absolutely got to have the onion soup . . . The chicken & mushroom galette wasn’t a favourite with me. . . however, I think that was my own personal taste preference, as other people dining with me had that dish and absolutely raved about it!
There is also a cool little bar – what a great place to pop into for an atmospheric, relaxed drink.

Very french environment — all the staff are french and when we were there, all the surrounding tables of diners were too!
La Soupe a l’oignone is superb..
vive la france!
