Ate here and had a really bad lunch. Advised the owner who refunded us the price we had paid and was very apologetic.
So my partner and I decided to give it another try and see whether this was just a one off.
Second lunch we had was great. Balmac burger was really nice as was my partners steak. The chips which had been under cooked last time were perfect and our cokes instead of being from large plastic bottles were from small glass bottles.
Its obvious the owner took on board what we found lacking from our previous meal and made changes which is great to see.
Food was so much better the second time around that I would not hesitate to keep coming back!
Well done No.7!!

Went to this place with my BF for dinner on a Friday night, place was busy and had a nice buzz. The food was great flavor wise and presentation .Our waiter was great and offered outstanding service. The dessert menu selection was a little disappointing but the coffee made up for it. Would return again soon

Would recommend this restaurant to anyone. We had just the best service and the food was wonderful. We had not made reservations as being a Monday evening we thought it would be a slow evening. Not so!! But we were accommodated with a smile.
Will definitely eat there again when next we visit.

Coffee has always been great! We have had some interesting lunches that slightly put us off but we decided to try again last week.

Atmosphere was excellent.

Service was excellent, our waiter was friendly, polite, and professional. They served free-range chicken which really appealed to me, the menu in general was full of delicious choices.

We had no complaint with all of our meals, presentation and flavors excellent.

Again our service was professional and swift, with no delay between meals and plate clearing. Down to the last detail, the waiters left us to rest before clearing our desserts plate. (we didn’t feel rushed out the door)!

The drinks list was impressive, great to see choice for non-alcoholic drinks!

We will visit again, thankyou!

My friend and I went there for coffee and cakes etc. It was a weekday morning. The staff were busy behind the bar doing “?something” not very attentive. We ordered cakes and a scone. Lemon meringue pie was plain gross – pastry base was undercooked and slimely – uneatable – yuck. Scone was dry and tasteless (no cheese or seasoning inside) ate half, eatable only because hungry. Second try at a sweet treat failed miserably as well. Left most of our purchases on the plate. Drinks were fine. Fire was on and it was about 40 degrees in there – argh too hot!

Went to No.7 Balmac for lunch today with family, had a wonderful experience. The staff were incredibly friendly even when one of our party wanted something different to what was on the menu. The food was amazing, probably the best meal out I have had in a long time. I ordered the Cesar salad with wood chargrilled chicken followed by creme brulee, just delicious, price was reasonable, will definately be going back, in fact this place is now a firm favourite….

First visit to No 7 this week and must say the evening dining menu was disappointing. Very very over priced for the quality of the meal. Staff pleasant.
Certainly wont be rushing back for a meal.
Had heard this place was supposed to be great I rate it just average for the taste and look of the meals but boy they can charge.

Went to No. 7 Balmac for lunch. I had the crumbed fish and chips, my girlfriend had the pasta of the day (smoked tomato, mussel and fish).

Meals arrived within 10 minutes. The fish tasted fresh and was crumbed and fried nicely – not too oily. Chips were handcut with skin on and very good.

The pasta was also delicious. Both meals were just the right serving size.

Atmosphere was great, wait staff were pleasant and helpful. We’ll be back again.

We have been to No7 Balmac and always found it to be a wonderful experience. Last night we were very excited to go back. It was a set menu as it was graduation night. We were happy with this.We ordered our meals and were OK with the starters, definitely average compared to other visits. Our mains came out and they were also very average and then the deserts were probably the worst Ive had out before. We felt like they were rushing us through the whole time and it wasn’t even busy. This meal was not cheap and it was very average compared to usual. Wondering if they have had a change of chef. Our veges that came out for the table were broccoli, broccoli and more broccoli. Not garnished in any way and a strange vege to put on the table considering there were only green beans on our plate. After last nights visit I will be reluctant to go back.

Went for lunch here on mothers day and had the mushrooms with olive toast bacon and truffle oil. Really nice atmosphere, good service, good sized meals and lovely coffee. I was pleasantly surprised at how fast our meals came out as they were fully booked. enjoyed!

Excellent food and service, warm room on a cold night, only issue I had was with the lights dimmed so much for evening dining, I had to move seats to read the menu under a decent light!! Bigger candles, brighter bulbs in the side lamps, eye surgery ??? :)

I have been to No.7 Balmac for 3 times. I dined in at different times of the day trying to taste as many dishes as possible. In terms of the service and portion, the food is DEFINITELY worth the money.

The design and atmosphere are top-notch 5-star!! Service is undoubtedly excellent.

This is one of the handful restaurants where I am satisfied with all the dishes I’ve ordered. To date I still fail to find a dish that i can pick on.

No.7 Balmac is relatively young in Dunedin but it’s somewhere you must go!!

My partner and I recently dined at NO7 Balmac for the 1st time. We found the food to be mouth watering and moreish. I usually find it easy to pick out a main rather quickly but I had to really toss up between a few of the mains that sounded amazing on the menu. ‘Wood fired Cardrona Lamb’…’dry aged rib-eye’…
The choice of boutique locally brewed beer was another special bonus.
The staff were friendly and had good knowledge of the beer and wine menu.
My partner and I were send a glass of wine each on the house which was a great suprise and a really nice touch. It is a ‘special occasion restaurant’ but you might find every special occasion is spend there! I am keen to try NO7 Balmac for brunch one day soon.

We arrived here last night 8th Jan 2010 and were instantly greeted and made very welcome.

Our waitress was very clued up on the menu with what were in the dishes, and showed true top class service though out our dining experience.

We had a lovely wood smoked bread and yummy fresh Basil Pesto dip and real homemade Hummus dips that were to die for for a starter.

We then had our separate courses the Salmon – just divine and the most tender steak that my husband had in a long time that just melted in his mouth!

We then couldn’t resist the dessert menu.

Our waitress informed us on what she thought was the best.

We looked at the Belgium Chocolate Fondant, but due to our own lack of time left that we had, and our waitress informed us of a 15 minute cooking time, we opted for the Chocolate Brownie with the berry sauce and real Vanilla Ice cream instead.

We were not disappointed in any way during our dining experience here.

With the total price of $115.00 including the 2 beers, we thought that this was worth every dollar.

What a fantastic place to go and enjoy, and we certainly did that! Well done to all at the NO 7 Balac including of course the Chef who delivered outstanding meals that the plates were completely finished, with my hubby licking his fingers!

We were excited about what were choose to eat. The food was presented and tasted A+++.

Thank you to you guys for a most lovely evening. Definitely coming back to taste the Belgium Chocolate Fondant.

Came here in the evening one night. I thoroughly enjoyed my main meal of bouillabaisse here. Although small, the flavours were delicious. I had the lemon tart for dessert, which was ok, but I preferred the chocolate fondant I had last time I came. Will be back!

Wow! Is this Dunedin? This was what I was asking myself as we arrived for lunch on Friday, the place looks amazing, the staff friendly and professional and the menu is very interesting. The place has a very cosmopolitan buzz about it and it was very busy. The lunch menu is nicely varied, allowing for a light lunch or full on dining experience. We found everything beautifully presented and cooked and the tastes were amazing. I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone and I can’t wait to return, even just for coffee.
