Overview

Established in 2002, the Lone Star Wellington is nestled in the Courtney Quarter in a real character office block formerly known as the “Globe Building”. This circa 1920 structure has been lovingly restored with a blend of both historical and modern design. Inside you’ll find a sprawling contemporary and luxurious area in which to dine, imbibe and relax in – a reputable addition to the gastronomic centre of New Zealand. Downstairs the Café seats around 130, including relaxing booth areas and an eye-catching flaming star fireplace (a much sought after dining location, especially during the winter months). Upstairs we have an elegant, opulent Lounge Bar with DJs most nights and a function room which caters for up to 60 people, available 7 days per week. The LoneStar also offers a set menu to cater for all your function needs – simply give us a call, tell us what you need and we’ll do the rest.

Food was good! Only thing was that some dishes were a little expensive, but hey quantity & quality is good.

Very slow service although pleasant enough staff. The menu had sufficient selection for a family but was way over priced for the quality that we received. I had steak which was cooked appropriately but the quality of the meat was very poor. They used a cheap cut and smothered it with sauce. The steak was full of inedible bits and very hard to chew.

It took us 35 minutes to get our order taken and another 45 minutes for the food to arrive. Our daughters couldn’t be bothered to even wait for their free desert.

Wont be going back. There are dozens of better restaurants in Wellington and as such this only rates 1 star.

went there on a fri nite, place was buzzing with conversation and looked very unquie with all the memorabilia on the walls. After been shown to our table and introduced to our waitress who was to look after us, we were asked for drinks promptly and handed our menu’s. I chose the pork belly which really was’nt all that impressed with, when your paying $30+ for meals I would expect to have a dish that oozes quality and great taste. Instead I ended up with a stack of wilted spinach, potato and pork belly….drowned in a very sickly sweet apple and balsamic chutney.
I really thought that this dish was going to blow me away, instead I was left feeling like quantity over quality was this places first and for most appeal.

Service is always very good and we’ve never had a bad meal. The Lonestar loaf is fantastic. It is way too noisey though.

A great Lonestar restaurant compared with others we’ve been to.

Err not a good experience that I do not wish to repeat. It started well as we were seated very quickly but that was about it the rest was not good.
We waited for approx 30mins for our meals and I received a very over cooked 325gm Sirloin after requesting it medium. This was very annoying as the waitress made a real point of stating the chef does not recommend any of the steaks be cooked medium to well done, It was dry and and hardish on the outside. I did not say anything as we couldn’t get any attention due to the over crowded and loud enviroment. As well as not wating to wait any further as I was very hungry I made do, I wish I hadn’t.
As for desert there wasn’t any left of what we wanted after only 3hrs of trade so we left in a hurry and I personally wont be back for a main that cost $35 and was almost inedible.

I used to go to Lone star and it was one of my favourite restaurant. The food used to be quite nice. But now the salad and chunky potatoes were piled up like a plate of rubbish. The steak was pre cooked in the oven then the customer order they cooked in the grill. it is pretty disgusting.

Staff are normally quite friendly but once i didn’t eat my steak and want to take it home, he threw it in the bin and told me he replaced stir fried mushroom.

Good atmosphere, but too noisy.. Ideal from fa miles and kids (that made a lot of noises).

One thing I would like to complement is the Kahlua Cheese cake. TOP!!!

Food was nice, but find the proportions almost quite sickening. Good food doesn’t need to be served in such massive quantities. If you’re wanting a quiet night, not recommended as it’s very noisy. Service however was fantastic, very charming and pleasant. Would go again and order an entree, but not a main. Probably a good blokey restaurant.
