Having moved to the area from the central city recently I was craving city-style dining and have found it! The restaurant is lovely, very relaxed and quiet. The service was excellent, very attentive. The wine selection was really good, the food was very well presented and tasted lovely, full marks for the lemon tart and matching dessert wine, a trip to heaven! I will definitely be back.

It was amazing the first time we went about 3 years ago the main floor guy was awesome, service fantastic, food amazing and wine great. Great experience. But went last November and the main guy wasn’t there, service not amazing, service and food average. Was a bit disappointed second time round which is a shame. Don’t know if would go back again !

nice place but food was lacking flavour (was very simple). service was great, but the food does not justify the prices. will not be coming back.

My friend and I had dinner at Eight Point Two a while ago. I expected great food and were not disappointed. Every dish was prepared to perfection although I felt that it’s missing something special, creative for me to give it top rating.
The staff were very friendly and I felt as if we were their guests rather than customers.
The day before our dinner Eight Point Two called to reconfirm our booking, which was a very nice gesture.

We recently dined with a group for a Birthday celebration. We had not been before and were expecting great things but were disappointed. After plying us with drinks our orders were finally taken at about 10pm and only at our request. At that stage we were told that of the four main courses, one was not available. When we started to order it became clear that the other choices were also fast running out and by the time the last in our party ordered there were only two items left to choose from. For an expensive place like this, it was most disappointing and had we not been with a group, we would have left to eat somewhere else. The food when it came was nice but not exceptional. We will not be back any time soon.

Have been to 8.2 in Hinemoa St, Birkenhead several times over the past year. The restaurant itself has a soft contemporary design and great artwork in a traditional villa, there’s also a beautiful outside seating area.
Personally I like 8.2, its one of the best restaurants on the shore and has never let us down. Food is delicious, cooked by someone with skill and with plenty on the plate, it’s all good news.
The restaurant is run by a lovely man named Lindsay who I have to say has been there each and every time we visited, ultimately such dedication shows in the service. Lindsay and his team clearly like looking after people and we like being looked after. For good service alone it’s worth going, coupled with a great kitchen we will no doubt return several times again this year.

8.2 is not far from my home and as a result we have eaten there many times as have friends living locally.
For a local restaurant its hard to get past restaurants like 8.2, food and service are both fabulous and it must be said few restaurants on the shore are this chic. Not sure who designed 8.2, they have a wonderful eye for style and comfort

Went earlier in the year, the duck with plums was great, good for birthday treat etc, quite pricey, was packed the night we were there. well enjoyed

In early 2008, we found the food portions small and the staff rather arch. Recently though the atmosphere and the portions have improved and we go whenever we can afford it. Recommended.

Have been here several times. Each time have enjoyed an excellent meal and top service. At times the food has been so good as completely to stop all conversation so as to savour every mouthful. Deserts not quite as good as the rest of the menu – but that is only because the rest of the menu is so great!

As a regular diners at 8point2 (and many other similar places both here and overseas) we believe that this is one of Auckland’s best restaurants. It is warm and inviting, the staff are excellent and one frequently sees both owners (front of house and Chef) working hard to produce both a great ambiance and excellent food – and it is not expensive compared to others in this league. Both the menu and wine list are well thought out and offer real value.
We can’t wait to go back (yet again) – a delightful experience…

Good but not quite what we expected for the $$$’s Spent, the food was certainly very tasty and well presented but a little on the small side servings wise and fairly expensive as was the wine!
Service how ever was Excellent.
