Had visitors from overseas who wanted seafood meal and when they knew Dockside had whitebait on the menu that’s where we headed. Their whitebait entree was everything and more they wanted with being a good thick patty (and mainly whitebait). The mains were fresh and melt in your mouth (1 fish, 1 chicken, 1 lamb shank). The desserts were divine – I had trio of chocolate and it was out of this world. The service was great – the waitress knew the food, attentive without being “in your face”, pleasant with a sense of humour. My visitors thoroughly enjoyed the evening so thank you Dockside for an all round great dining experience.

My partner and I had dinner when we were visiting Wellington on Saturday night and decided to have dinner at your restaurant thinking that it would be a nice meal. What a disappointment it was!
We ordered oysters kilpatrick with garlic bread, market fish of the day and roast lamb. The waitress did not explain the fish of the day and just left. When our oysters arrived, each of our oysters had broken shells in them and we both had broken shells in our mouths which was very unpleasant. Our garlic bread did not arrive. The fish and the lamb were very average.
We had dined in quite a few restaurants in Wellington and we really think that the price you charge for the very average food that was served was too high. It was a disappointing evening for us.
I recommend some of the cafes on Cuba st in wellington good value for money and better food than this place!

I hadn’t dined at Dockside in several years and was impressed with the decor in the restaurant area which overlooks part of the beautiful Wellington harbour. Our table was over a clear glass panel which meant we could see right down to the water through the dock – very cool! I had the West Coast whitebait fritters to start; although ‘fritters’ were mentioned on the menu, there was in fact just one medium sized fritter served with a small salad. Tasty, but not quite what I expected. My partner’s pan seared garlic prawn were delicious with six large prawns in the salad. For the main course, I had the lamb shank on kumara mash and winter vegetables, which was reasonably tender and subtly flavoured, and my partner enjoyed the prime Angus fillet. The service was excellent; ever present yet inconspicuous. A lovely but very expensive meal.

Had a very nice meal here last night but for the price of the food you would have expected better.
