Had never tried Curry Express, and after buying a voucher online me and friends decided to try it out. The food was mediocre and everything else appalling.

The place was practically empty yet staff were extremely slow to take our orders, unhelpful and argumentative. We wanted to dine in but after waiting to get served so long we decided on takeout.

we were told 20minutes after we had paid, after 40minutes the meals were still not ready. After talking to staff, who seemed to lack any interest whatsoever we received our meal 50 minutes later. on arriving home realized order had been mucked up.

While waiting for our meal we wanted to sit down but got asked to move as seating was only for dine in despite only about 4 other people being in the restaurant.

Poor service. poor staff. Food was okay but after overall experience wouldn’t return and definitely wouldn’t reccomend

Best butter chicken, and I have had butter chicken around in palmy.
I think the pricing is great.
My partner and I had the deluxe banquet and loved it! Great service, it was prompt and food also came quickly.
We were seated quickly and served quickly.

I am not sure why they have had such bad reviews? We had seen the bad reviews but decided to give them a visit anyway and never go again if it was crap! But we will definitely visit again!

Arrived at the restaurant, around 5 minutes to be greeted. Cutlery was dirty.
Discussion from kitchen could be heard throughout restaurant.

Food was tasty, but would suggest takeaway over eating in restaurant.
Why is rice extra with meals???
Rice is cheap as chips and should be included with the meal.

Appaling service, wont be likely to return. Rude staff on phone and in person. We were seen to a table but not given any menus & no staff available to ask. Woman came to take our order 15mins later, didnt apologise when she realised we didnt have menus. Table had a bottle of water,no water glasses and one wine glass, only one serviette and minus cuttlery for one seat. Dinner took ages to be served even though the place was almost dead. The meals were nice but the yogurt laccy drink was awful. I asked for a doggy bag and both curries were mixed together even though they were two different sorts & one was mine & the other my friends. The lady looked at me like I was disgusting and it was far to much effort when I asked to have the uneaten breads packaged aswell. We overheard a rather heated and loud argument between one of the staff and a customer, the other few customers were all staring aswell – not a good look.

This restaurant will never see us again: bad service (staff are rude and argumentative)
The food is mediocre and the portions are small.

A huge restaurant that always seems close to empty, I guess we should have taken that as a warning and stayed away.

Surprised they are still in business…

very very poor service. extremely slow. no water was given even when asked few times. For takeaway the breads were wrapped in brown paper bags very unprofessional. Curry was good in taste were breads were very soggy and cut into very small pieces. Not recommended at all. Service staff very poor and unprofessional… must get some training for them.

I’ve tried the whole vegetarian & seafood menu here and dined in about 15 times. Only once did I get a dish that was less than 10/10. The naan and the onion baji are the best I’ve ever had. Yummy mango lassi and gulab jamun! The curries are lovely. Seems like a family outfit so they’re not ultra-professional in their service, but always friendly and sometimes random in a funny way – the waiter always tries to convince my boyfriend to try something other than butter chicken (and I agree!) but he never does. They also made a traditional chicken dish vegetarian for me and once they chased us down the street to give our eftpos card back. Sometimes ultra-professional isn’t the best :)

This place was appalling. We had to wait 50 minutes for our three takeaway meals and it was only after having paid for the meals we were told that the wait would be 30 minutes. There were only six full tables at the restaurant so I would hate to think how slow they would be if they were actually busy!!! Then after we got home we realized they had mucked up every single order including missing sauce, not listening to our spiciness requests, and giving us the wrong curries with no napkins or knives/forks. Absolutely poor, bad service and food that we only ate because we were starving. I would avoid this place at all costs.

The food was good enough, however the service was appalling.

We had ordered some takeaways and grabbed a couple of beers.
As we took a seat, we were told that the seating in the restaurant was for customers who were dining-in ONLY.

The place was completely empty – we were the only people there – yet we were told this. This is very unprofessional behavior.

Had a superb meal here with friends a couple of weeks ago. The curries were fragrant and delicious. Everyone commented on how good theirs was. The Naans were perhaps the best I’ve ever had. Light, tasty, and HUGE – not gluggy/fatty as most are.

While the ambience is poor, I certainly don’t have high pretensions when I go for a curry.

I would highly recommend Curry Express if you are a curry lover.

We had Tika Masala Med and Palak Masala Mild takeaway.

Chicken quantities were generous and the meat was tender and nice. The cottage cheese was good.

Masala sauces tasted like butter chicken way too sweet. Poorly mixed, with pockets of dry grit and uneven heat.

It was nice inside and the service was good. But overall will try elsewhere next time.

we have been many times, we often make it a tradition to try all butter chicken and lamb korma recipes from all Indian cuisine restaurants in Palmerston north. we have found Curry Express, provides the best rice, butter chicken and lamb korma dishes in the Manawatu region, and friends and family do agree

we have only used this restaurant for takeaways – but the food is delicious and good value for money. Could use more rice with the meal to make better use of the lovely sauces but other than that, perfect!
